Warped panels are especially common in wood siding and are a sure sign that your home is ready for new material. You can check to see if any of the siding on your structure is soft or malleable, which would be a probable indication of water damage or pest infestation.
Wood siding can also experience dry rot which is harder to see with the naked eye. Dry rotting means that only the outer layer of the wood is still intact, so a thorough examination may be necessary.
You may even be able to see that it’s time for new siding from the inside. Mold, mildew, and peeling paint or wallpaper suggest that water and moisture are getting through the exterior. If the problem is reaching the interior, it’s time to upgrade your siding.

Popular Siding Options
Vinyl siding is the most popular and common type of siding used. It was first introduced in the 1960’s and eventually grew to popularity because of its versatility and maintenance benefits. There are many different varieties of colors, styles and thickness to choose from.
Steel Siding is a great option if you want something more durable than vinyl. Though, more expensive, it can be dented with great effort, though it is rarely destroyed. It is also highly resistant to both water and fire damage.
LP Smart Side offers the beauty of traditional wood, but the durability of engineered wood similar to fiber cement. It uses superior exterior grade resins to create a very strong bond within the product. This helps it withstand extreme heat, cold, rainfall and humidity.
James Hardie siding, or more commonly known as Hardie Board, is one of the top siding products to use. It is almost five times thicker than vinyl and resistant to hail damage. It can also withstand winds up to 150 miles per hour. It is an engineered product similar to LP, though uses a composition of cement fibers instead of wood. It is completely fire resistant, impact resistant, rot resistant, resistant to wind, hail, rain, snow, and sun. It is also easily painted and comes with a 30 year warranty.
